UPDATE: I was diagnosed with mononucleosis in early September and will not be able to participate in the 50 mile event. I have opted to run the Half Marathon as part of the same race series. I am very disappointed that I cannot follow through with my commitment but I need to be responsible to my health. The need for more funds for the Partner Shares program has not diminished. Please support this cause!
Support me as I run 50 miles to benefit the Partner Shares Program!
You can make a difference by contributing a pledge of support to help low-income families afford weekly deliveries of certified organic produce grown just miles from their homes. Money for FairShare’s Partner Shares program gives cash grants to households in need for half the cost of their CSA share up to $300. My goal is to raise $1,200 for Partner Shares.
As a CSA farmer and member of the Board of Directors for the FairShare CSA Coalition I feel passionate about the CSA movement, our local food system, and most of all, making fresh, locally grown food accessible to everyone who wants it. Help me make CSA shares available to families in need by sponsoring my 50 mile race. 100% of donations will go directly to the Partner Shares fund.
I will be running The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Mile – Wisconsin on October 3rd at Kettle Moraine State Park. There are 7 distances in this racing event – 5k up to 50 mile. As a a North Face Endurance Challenge Ambassador I can offer you a 15% off discount on your race entry fee. Come out and run with me in October!
WHAT IS CSA? Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production.
One Partner Shares participant tells her story: The Partner Shares Program opened up the ability to feed my family, and most importantly my 7 year old son, a natural, healthy and well balanced diet. My son is medically fragile and dependent on a feeding tube. The Partner Shares Program has provided the opportunity to feed him real food in place of commercial formula. My son has thrived on his new diet and amazed his doctors. Having a CSA has also benefited the rest of the family. The family has learned to try, and now like, many new vegetables, cook in a healthier manner and how to preserve any excess vegetables for use during the winter. The trip to the farm to pick up our share is a highlight of the week. The kids are always excited to see what is in the box and if any of their favorites are included. Without the Partner Shares Program, being part of the CSA and eating healthier would not be an option. I am forever grateful for the generosity of those who provide me and my family this opportunity. – Kelly Peterson, Black Earth WI
